My Goldman Sachs Summer Engineering Internship

In April 2018, I visited the Goldman Sachs Headquarters as a part of a career exploratory trip. At that time I was only a freshman studying Computer Science at Brown University, and it was my first time in New York City. Walking into the 44-floor building was truly an unforgettable experience that motivated me to want to work there one day.

I was attracted to the reputation of the firm, the scale of its business, and all the professional and personal development opportunities that come with it. All the alumni whom I spoke to at campus recruiting “coffee chats” were genuinely passionate about their work and mentoring students like me. I realized that Goldman Sachs was a place where I would be able to both develop my technical skills as a computer science student but also grow as a person in an environment that felt natural.

In my sophomore year, I applied to their Engineering Essentials program but was rejected. This did not deter me from attending other Goldman recruiting sessions and learning about their engineering opportunities. When the application opened in summer 2019, I applied immediately despite not even having started my junior year. After successful interviews that spanned multiple months, I was ecstatic to receive an offer.
