On May 3rd, 2021, I graduated from Brown University with a BS in Computer Science.

While I had never written a life update on Medium before, this achievement is the product of years of hard work, resilience, and persistence.

Praise the Lord for always watching over me. I’m thankful for my family, teachers/professors, mentors, friends, the Women in Computer Science community at Brown, and the Rewriting the Code organization.

Growing up low-income with a single mother, as well as going to a 4,000 student public high school, I didn’t imagine myself attending an Ivy League college from the beginning.

The past 4 years at Brown taught me that anything is possible with diligence and commitment even when faced with rejections. I chose to study CS knowing that the subject can be frustrating and difficult, not to mention that it’s also a male-dominated field.

I still remember I almost quit computer science because of a bug in my final project during freshman year. I called my mom at 2 am, sitting on the dorm staircase, crying, and telling her that I might look into another concentration instead.
